Inkterview a Marty Early by Ink on Sky

In this new chapter of artists trhough de world, we have the pleasure to interview one of the most famous tattoo artists in France, Marty Early.

With a great background behind him, and being the visible face of the French TV program: “Tattoo Cover” of TFX.
In this interview Marty gives us his vision on the tattoo industry and its evolution.

Why did you start tattooing?

I’ve always been drawn to the underground culture, I was skateboarding for years and years and I ended up meeting tatooed people and as I’ve always been drawing since a young kid I naturally started an aprenticeship in a street shop in Paris.

How do you see the tattoo sector?

The first years were complicated as for a lot of artists I guess, you always question your path ,your style ,always improving is very hard without questioning yourself as an artist, trying to find new inspiration etc, but after maybe 4-5 years I think I really found my style and started evolving in this direction. And then it blew up I went to conventions started tv traveled a lot and il thankfull to still have opportunity and trust from clients over the world.

How do you see the culture of tattoos in 10 years?

The tattoo sector has changed a lot since when I first started. Back in the day I would say it was more compact and simple every one knew every one somehow. Now pretty much every one consider themselves tattoers and theres shops and conventions every where but I guess thats just the evolution of it.

It’s a very hard question because with AI really is changing the game for everyone, now not only you have to be a talented artist but today you have to be so much more than just good at your craft so i honestly dont know the futur, I think the bit ones will prevail but small ones with talent but not much enthousiasm for promotions themselves will have a hard Time.

How do you see the evolution of tattoos in Europe?

In Europe it’s getting bigger and bigger, I dont know if I’ll reach the same level as USA but it’s getting better for sure.

If you could tattoo any person, living or deceased, who would it be and why?

If I could tattoo one person it would be chester from linkin park, but I already tattooed my family and parents so thats the best

If you could collaborate with any other artist, who would it be and what kind of project would you work on together?

I do a lot of collabs with hyper realistic artist I think it fits well with neotraditional tattoos. I did collab with my closest friends such as Michael taguet, egon weiss and more

Have social media changed the way we value tattoos?

Social media definitly changed the tattoo sector because now your shop is litterally your Instagram… so tattooers now have to promote themselves and not wait for walk-ins; it’s a different time for sure.
